Traditional cooks say that kokonte is medicinal and can treat stomach ailments.

One of Ghana's main dishes, kokonte, is considered therapeutic by traditional cooks but has reportedly been neglected.

However, such food would be enjoyed every Easter by the chief and residents of Akwamu Adumasa in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region.

Our correspondent Kweku Antwi-Otoo noted that Akwamu Adumasa's Kokonte Festival this year attracted a sizable crowd.

When consumed consistently on a daily basis, the cooks claim that kokonte can treat any stomach ailment.

The staple, which is made from cassava dough, is typically prepared and consumed with okro, a groundnut and palm nut soup.

Even Kokonte with ground pepper is a favorite among some residents of Kroboland and Akwamu.

Numerous people attended the Kokonte Festival at Akwamu Adumasa, including chiefs from various parts of the Eastern Region.

'Oyiakekyire' Nana Ansah Kwao IV, the chief of Adumasa, explained the significance of the festival by stating that because Ghana promotes buying Made in Ghana products, he and his people felt it was appropriate to celebrate Koko.

Since Kokonte had received a terrible reputation for a long time, he said in Twi, "I decided to make it special for my people and all those who want to enjoy it and also promote the purchase of made in Ghana foods."

Kokonte is a medicinal plant, according to the Aburihene, Otoobour Djan Kwasi II, who is also the Adontehene of Akuapem.

Those foods, he claimed, were what kept our ancestors healthy but had been neglected.

The main goal of the event, according to Emmanuel Ofori, a member of the planning committee and the Assembly representative for Adumasa, is to advance peace, unity, and development.

Mr. Ofori assured that upcoming activities will be huge so that more people would attend the festival.
