We ganged up against Alan in 2008 to support Akufo-Addo- Boakye Agyarko reveals

Mr. Boakye Kyerematen Agyarko, a former minister of energy, has disclosed that certain presidential candidate hopefuls of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) conspired against Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen during the presidential primaries in 2008.

According to him, the choice to oppose Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen was made following a meeting with several senior members of the party, the identities of whom Mr. Agyarko did not disclose.

Speaking on Kumasi-based Hello FM Mr. Boakye Agyarko, who is currently vying to head the party in the general elections of 2024, disclosed that even though their decision was not made public, they threw their support for Akufo-Addo a night before the election. Boakye Agyarko is currently vying to lead the party in the general elections of 2024.

"The night before the primaries in 2008 in Legon, we were called to an elderly person in the NPP's residence and requested to stand down at that very night to give our support behind Akufo-Addo, but we declined. The next day, the primaries were held at Legon. According to Mr. Boakye Agyarko's revelations, "We told them that it was rather late, and that we can't take such a decision without consulting our followers."

According to him, even though they rejected the decision to get out of the contest, they were nonetheless asked to persuade their supporters to cast their ballots for Akufo-Addo.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who is currently the President of Ghana, became victorious in the Presidential Primaries of the New Patriotic Party in 2008, receiving 47.9% of the total votes cast, while Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, who came in second, received 32.5% of the vote.
