What caused Akufo Addo to withhold the Galamsey Scandal Report for two years?

Professor Frimpong Boateng, a prominent heart surgeon in Ghana, is currently trending on both traditional and social media. The contentious Galamsey (illegal mining) problem is the cause of the media attention. After being succeeded as the chairman of the Inter Ministerial Advisory Committee on Galamsey (IMACG), the learned Prof initially achieved media dominance.

In addition to individuals with environmental expertise from the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology, the President assembled a powerful team of ministers and several other Ghanaian stakeholders to assist in taking action against Galamsey. Prof. Frimpong Boateng, a renowned physician and at the time the substantive Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology, served as the chairman of the Inter Ministerial Advisory Council on Galamsey (IMACG). It happened in 2017.

Galamsey had become equivalent to cocaine, thus anyone who stood in the way of its use was viewed as an adversary. In the case of Prof. Frimpong Boateng and his IMACG team, this was the situation. Perhaps even some of the professor's advisory team were heavily involved in the illicit business of destroying Ghana's bio-diversity bodies for profit, something the knowledgeable professor was oblivious of. Soon, rumors would spread that Prof. Boateng and his son were both heavily involved in illegal trading.

These were all calculated masterstrokes to tarnish Prof. Boateng even before he could begin and complete the interministerial assignment. When things reached their peak, Prof. Boateng gave his resignation. His resignation served as fodder for his critics' schemes. The spin doctors started spinning the propaganda wheel, claiming victory: "Why has Prof resigned? As we previously informed you, the IMACG chairman actively participates in Galamsey alongside his son.

It was hard for Professor Frimpong Boateng to return to the Ministry of Environment, Science, and Technology because of his involvement in the Galamsey threat. During the President's current second term, the Prof. was fired from his position as substantive minister. Because it was impossible to comprehend the degree of the harm done to the generally colorless natural nature of the impacted rivers, their content and character had taken on very distressing hues.

People have perished after drinking river water, which for many Ghanaian communities—including the cities—has long been a reliable source of drinkable water. Who will make contributions to the mess in our water bodies while yet being given the authority to manage the disaster he himself created? Prof. Boateng would therefore pay the fine, but his most recent exposé suggests that perhaps someone else should be held accountable.Should the Republic's President share some of the blame?

What steps did the President take if the report by Prof. Frimpong Boateng was presented to him in 2021? Is it true that the persons mentioned in the report were his dependable allies and subordinates, making the President's handling of its contents difficult? The President's involvement in the situation was constrained, as any impartial viewer of the developing story could plainly infer. Taking decisive action or making a choice in the matter became an unwelcome albatross around his neck because that was, in fact, the circumstance.

Why then is the report becoming popular at this time? The President was astounded to the core by how his own people, including his blood relatives, could thwart him in the fight against Galamsey, according to my detective hounding, which is confirmed by reliable sources in government. Thus, the President was forced to choose between the sea of hell and the devil. One matter in particular has the potential to scuttle the President's top priority and legacy: breaking the eight-year two-term streak that has dominated Ghanaian politics since the 4th Republic's founding.

How should a president handle a situation involving cabinet members who are both close to him and whom he has trusted with his life both in opposition and in government? Examine the checklist: The Akufo Addo administration was home to several feared individuals, including Gabby Otchere Darko, Lord Commey, the Operations Director, Nii Teiko Tagoe, a Presidential Staffer in the President's office, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the efficient Minister of Information, the late Sir John, and his protege, Charles Owusu.

What the President was currently having trouble with has now been in the news for the entire week. You may rely on government propagandists to claim that eminent Prof. Boateng intentionally leaked the report to the media. In response, wouldn't Prof. Frimpong Boateng have done so as soon as he finished his report if he had any hidden agenda?

Except for Lord Commey, all of the impacted criminals have denied the Prof. Frimpong Boateng study without offering any concrete evidence of their innocence or even a threat to pursue justice in court. In the case of Gabby Otchere Darko, he lost his cool and attacked the Professor, calling him a fool without explicitly addressing the Professor's suspected role in the issue.
