When Akufo-Addo departs office, Kpebu will sue Databank in court.

Martin Luther Kpebu, a private attorney, has stated that he will go to court after President Akufo-Addo's term expires to reclaim all the money Databank is making from Ghana's bonds.

According to the attorney, the fact that Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta is the Finance minister and also advises the government on loans from which his company benefits constitutes a conflict of interest and an act of corruption that should not be tolerated in any serious nation.

The attorney stated on TV3's KeyPoint on April 29, 2023, with Alfred Ocansey, that he wants the NPP to be out of government before initiating legal action to retrieve the money.

"In approximately twenty months, President Akufo-Addo will depart with Ofori-Atta. They will be removed from office, and we will then proceed to court. They will throw it up. We will return this money. We will return the money Databank made from the bonds. Here in Ghana, no. Are we naive?

The lawyer lamented, "You come and promise that you're the philosopher king, incorruptible, "I'm not corrupt," and then we vote for you, and then clearly, so blazingly, very nauseatingly, in broad daylight, you put Databank there, and they're making hundreds of millions of dollars off of our bonds."

Speaking about the hardships the Akufo-Addo government has caused Ghanaians while enriching himself and his family, he said, "Today our people are dying, today people can't buy drugs, today people are starving, today people can't pay rent, and you have become wealthier." We will return that money as long as we live."

Background

On Wednesday, August 17, 2022, on the GTV Breakfast Show, renowned broadcaster Kwasi Kyei Darkwa revealed that Ken Ofori-Atta's company, Databank, serves as the government's transactions advisor for state-issued loans.

He referred to the use of the bank belonging to the President's brother as transactional advisors for international loans that Ghana receives as naive and illogical.

He accused Congress of shirking their responsibilities by permitting Ofori-Atta to engage in such activities with his own company.

According to him, "Yesterday, I read a report that shattered my heart. I discovered how much Ghana owes, as well as the fact that the company or former company of the minister of finance is the transaction advisor for the funds we borrow. Thus, as Ghana becomes impoverished, the company or former company of the minister of finance becomes more prosperous."

"Is this something we wish to perpetuate in this nation? Do we want to elect individuals to office, pay them their salaries and perks, and then allow them, their friends, and their companies or former employers to profit from our nation's problems?" KKD inquired.
