When the New Patriotic Party is in office, security deteriorates - John Mahama

John Dramani Mahama, former president of the Republic of Ghana, has expressed concern over the growing insecurity in the Upper East Region, particularly in the Bawku area. As part of his campaign tour in the region, while speaking to National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters in the Bawku Central and Binduri constituencies, Mahama blamed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for its incapacity to manage security issues in the region.

According to Mahama, if the NDC is elected, it will take the necessary steps to control and resolve conflicts in the Bawku region. In addition, he condemned the unjustified murders of innocent citizens in the region by security personnel and pledged to investigate and compensate the victims' families.

"Security is a concern, particularly in this region, and whenever the NPP takes office, all these security issues resurface. We live in harmony when the NDC is in power, but as soon as they arrive, they destabilize everything. Now, look at what is occurring: murders, and I condemn our military's murder of innocent citizens. Our military is intended to protect us, and they should use their weapons to do so, not to kill us. Therefore, when we arrive, we will determine the cause of death for these individuals, and we will ensure that their families are adequately compensated," Mahama said.

The former president also urged all factions to enable peace to prevail in order to stimulate economic growth. He characterized the Bawku region as a business hub and emphasized the need for peace to foster economic growth and development.
