Why Henry Quartey begged Ga Mantse for forgiveness on his knees

On Monday, April 24, 2023, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey, begged forgiveness from the Ga Mantse King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II and the Paramount Chiefs of the Ga Traditional Council during a durbar at the Ga Mantse Palace in Accra.

This comes after the minister and member of parliament for the Ayawaso Central Constituency threatened to prosecute and demand four million cedis in damages for allegedly conspiring with the government to sell land in Agbogboloshie.

Nii Odaawulu, the leader of Arise Ga-Dangme, accused Henry Quartey of consenting to sell Agbogboloshie land for the construction of a hostel for Kayayei, a move that was derided by many locals.

Henry Quartey expressed his feelings and displeasure regarding the accusations while discussing the ban on noisemaking advance of the Homowo festival celebrations.

In response to a contrition from the Ga Dangme youth group, the Greater Accra Regional Minister decided to seek forgiveness from the Ga Mantse for his previous remarks made in their presence.

On April 24, 2023, during a durbar at the Ga Mantse Palace in Accra to receive the Director-General of UNESCO – H.E. Audrey Azoulay, Henry Quartey apologized to the Ga Mantse and Council.

"I arrived here four days ago and spoke nicely about how people disregard the noise ban. I made a public statement, but it seems I went too far, so I would like to publicly apologize to Nii for my error and ask for his forgiveness. Please pardon me as I am unable to pay the fines," he said.

He added, "It's not a good idea to do it in the room, so I would do it in public."

Nii Adote Otintor II, the Sempe Mantse, spoke on behalf of the Ga Traditional Council and stated, "We have accepted the Regional Minister's statements and have forgiven him."

Later, the Greater Accra Regional Minister summoned the Arise Ga-Dangme leader to inhale the peace pipe.

Numerous individuals have praised the actions of Henry Quartey.
