Why did God choose Moses, aged 80, to save Israel? Duffuor queries critics on age

Dr. Kwabena Duffour submits his candidacy for the NDC

Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, a National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate candidate, has responded to detractors who have questioned his age. Duffuor is attempting to become the opposition party's presidential nominee.

He stated that age is not a factor in governance and management, but rather competency and honesty.

In an exclusive interview with Paa Kwesi Asare of Media General, the former finance minister alluded to the biblical account of the liberation of the Israelites from Egyptian slavery and suggested that God chose an 80-year-old Moses when there were numerous young Hebrews available in Egypt.

"When God decided to rescue the Hebrews from Egypt, He didn't take someone like you," Dr. Duffuor stated to the interviewer.

"He took an 80-year-old person into the desert with the knowledge that they would walk for 40 years.

"There were others younger than you. Why didn't God choose one of them, but instead went outside and brought back Moses, who had fled and remained outside for eighty years?"

The former governor of the Central Bank dared those who questioned his health to furnish their medical records and compare them with his.

In a lecture delivered at Chatham House in the United Kingdom earlier this year, former President John Dramani Mahama, who is being challenged for the presidential nomination by Dr. Duffuor, questioned why 80- and 90-year-olds would seek to govern African nations.

"An elderly leader has no business continuing to serve in that capacity. It makes no difference where a person is from, whether Africa or elsewhere.

"Leaders with cognitive issues have no business continuing in their positions, particularly on a continent as young as Africa, where the population is predominantly young.

"Sixty percent of the population of Africa is youthful. "Therefore, why would 80- and 90-year-olds still wish to lead?"

Dr. Duffuor stated in the interview that the late former President John Evans Atta Mills performed significantly better than Mr. Mahama, who became President at the age of 52.

Prof. Atta Mills left office when he was approximately 69 years old, and his Vice President was HE John Mahama, who was approximately 52 years old. However, when comparing the performance of John Mahama and Prof. Mills, it is not age that matters, but competence and integrity, he said, implying that Mr. Mahama's performance was abysmal.

When pressed about this, he insisted, "The numbers speak for themselves!"
