Why you don't need to celebrate Valentine's Day

It is almost Valentine’s Day and the question on almost everyone’s mind is: how will you celebrate the day?

Some people choose to celebrate the day because of the pressure they receive from society and social media, some just choose to ignore the day.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to celebrate the day with your significant other. If you are in a new relationship, you want to make sure that your partner feels loved and appreciated. 

However, if your relationship is strong and if you have been together with your partner for a while, Valentine’s day does not have to be a big deal. 

Over the years, the day has become like a performative holiday where people compare their happiness and gifts to others which adds unnecessary pressure you do not need for your relationship.

Not choosing to celebrate is also okay, here’s why you and your partner do not need to celebrate Valentine’s Day: 

Valentines Day comes with unnecessary pressure

As most people will say “Everyday should feel like Valentine’s Day” that means showing love and affection to your partner every single day and not waiting for the 14th of February. Because of this unnecessary pressure, you and your partner can choose to spare yourselves by skipping this day together. 

There are other special days you can choose to celebrate

There are so many other special days that you can choose to celebrate like, the day you met, your first kiss, or when you finally both said “I love you.” Both you and your partner can choose to go all out on other special days. 

Outside is too full 

Most couples who will be celebrating the day have probably long made reservations to restaurants. Chances are, getting a spot at your favorite restaurant or spot will be a hassle. Not only will couples be out but also those that are choosing to spend the day as groups of friends.
