Joy News Bono East Correspondent, Anas Sabit Attacked in Techiman

The Bono East Correspondent for Joy News, a television news channel operated by the Multimedia Group, Anas Sabit, has reportedly been attacked by some thugs in Techiman, the Bono East Regional Capital.

The incident happened on Sunday, January 15, 2023, around 8:30 pm at Techiman Zongo.

The thugs allegedly attacked the journalist, discharged pepper spray into his eyes, and smashed the windscreens and back screens of his car as he tried to escape from the looming danger.

Realising that they had failed to execute their plans, they angrily stormed the house of the brother of Anas Sabit and the nearby office of the Techiman South NPP office and destroyed some properties.

Speaking on the incident, Anas Sabit who is still traumatised by the incident disclosed that he had visited his mother on the said day and was leaving when he was attacked by his assailants.

He revealed that his attackers, armed with machetes had switched off the streetlights in the area and blocked the road as well to carry out their dastardly act.

"On Sunday, I had visited my mother and was leaving when I realised the whole area was unusually in darkness with all the streetlights off. Suddenly, I saw some guys coming at me and that was when I became alarmed. They were armed with cutlasses and had pepper spray which they sprayed into my eyes but I manage to escape and as I speak I visited the hospital and I am okay".

He added that he suspects the attack to be a calculated attempt on his life and has officially made a report to the police but no arrest has been made so far.

"I suspect the attack to be a calculated attempt so I am not taking things for granted so I have lodged an official complaint at the police station and notified some traditional leaders in Techiman as well"

Meanwhile, independent checks by this reporter indicate that three other people who sustained injuries have equally lodged a complaint at the police station.
