Police officer, wife and child perish in fire in Kumasi

A police officer attached to the anti-robbery unit of the Ghana Police Service in the Ashanti Region has died in a fire outbreak.

The wife and daughter of the officer also perished in the inferno.

They met their untimely death when the fire swept through one of the rooms at the barracks where the officer and his family lived.

The charred bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue.

According to some residents, they rushed to the scene when news got to them, but there was little they could do to salvage the situation.

"We rushed to the scene to try and help but we could not safe them and sadly three souls have been lost in the fire".

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained but the incident has thrown the entire police force in the region into a state of mourning.

Meanwhile, the police have visited the scene but have refused to comment on the incident.
