Alleged Rapist of A Married Woman Escapes From Police Custody In Navrongo

Kwame, the alleged rapist of A young married woman in Navrongo, escaped from police custody after being arrested and detained in the Navrongo police cells. Kwame allegedly raped a young married woman (Name withheld) in Navrongo on Monday, 1st August 2022. The victim was assaulted on her way to work at around 4:30 am.

According to the victim’s husband, Mr Samuel, who spoke to TimBia GH, His wife bakes bread for a Koko seller near C. K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS). She, therefore, left home early to get to work on time. On her way to work, she was stopped by the alleged attacker, who threatened her with a knife. At first, it appeared to be a robbery case when the attacker asked for money and her phone.

Noticing that the victim had no money or a valuable phone at that odd hour, the attacker took advantage of it, pounced on her and grabbed her neck. She couldn’t shout due to the tight grip on her neck. The assailant managed to overpower her and raped her mercilessly. The assailant rashly escaped after the deed, leaving behind his footwear. The victim was emotionally traumatized as she collapsed on her way back home. She was then rushed to the War Memorial Hospital in Navrongo, where she received counselling and treatment for the bruises on her neck and a knife cut on her finger.

Meanwhile, Kwame, before his arrest, fled to his house and later sent his younger brother to pick up his footwear from the crime scene. Returning to the crime scene to investigate after picking up the alleged rapist’s footwear, the family of the raped victim spotted the errand boy scouting the scene for the footwear. After questioning the boy, it was confirmed that the person who sent him was the alleged rapist.

The Navrongo police command immediately arrested Kwame and detained him for further investigation. But the good news of the accused person’s arrest was short-lived when Sammy, the rape victim’s husband, received a call from the police claiming that the prisoner had escaped police custody. Sammy rushed to the police station to confirm the story, only to be told the prisoner was brought out of his cells to make a statement. The prisoner then took advantage of the slightest opportunity and forcefully pushed down one of the police officers and escaped.

Sammy has since informed some opinion leaders of his electoral area, including his assembly member, and called on all individuals who can help get justice for his traumatized wife to come to his aid.
