Bongo: Youth group demand removal of Dr. Gudu as Medical superintendent, demand proper health services delivery

In a bid to advocate for better healthcare services for the residents of Bongo District, the United Brothers Association, a vibrant youth group, organized a peaceful demonstration today and presented a petition to the District Chief Executive, madam Rita Atanga. The petition highlighted various concerns about the quality of healthcare provided by the only hospital in the district.

Addressing the Honorable DCE, the association stated that a healthy mind resides in a healthy body and emphasized that the well-being of the citizens plays a crucial role in building a vibrant and productive economy. However, the current state of healthcare services in the Bongo District Hospital has been far from satisfactory, prompting the youth group to take action.

The primary focus of this massive demonstration was to bring attention to several key concerns raised by the Association against the Bongo District Hospital, particularly targeting Dr. Gudu and certain departments within the facility. The petition presented by the association highlighted some troubling allegations that have sparked outrage among the community.

One of the major grievances raised by the association was the appointment of Dr. Gudu's biological son to work in the hospital on a contract basis. According to the association, Dr. Gudu assigned his son to a sensitive ward, specifically the Children's Ward. This move was met with skepticism by the association, as they questioned the credibility and impartiality of such an appointment.

Another crucial issue highlighted during the demonstration was the chronic shortage of medicines and drugs in the hospital dispensary. Patients have reportedly been forced to purchase essential medications from outside pharmacies due to the hospital's lack of supplies. The argued that the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) covers some of these drugs, which should be provided free of charge to patients with valid NHIA cards. Instead, the hospital authorities were accused of unlawfully diverting these drugs to private drugstores for personal profit, leaving patients in distress and financial burden.

The association also expressed concern over the lack of board meetings held by Dr. Gudu since he assumed his position at the Bongo Hospital in 2010. The association believes that regular board meetings are vital for effective decision-making and overall improvement in hospital operations.

Moreover, they alleged that Dr Gudu had fostered a hostile working environment, especially for newly appointed doctors. The association claimed that due to intimidation and discomfort caused by Dr. Gudu, many newly assigned doctors chose to leave their positions prematurely.

The petition also pointed out instances of laboratory staff frequently arriving late for work, causing delays in patient care and potentially compromising health services.

One other troubling revelation was the existence of unrecorded patient bills, suggesting financial discrepancies within the hospital's system.

In light of these pressing concerns, the Association handed over their petition to the District Chief Executive (DCE) Madam Rita Atanga, demanding prompt action and resolutions within a month. Should their demands not be met within the specified time frame, they asserted that they would explore other lawful avenues to ensure their concerns are adequately addressed.
