In a night filled with celebration and recognition, David Azure, an accomplished journalist with Bolgatanga based A1 radio, was awarded the prestigious title of "Best Health Reporter of the Year 2022" by the Upper East regional branch of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA). The event marked the 2nd edition of the awards in the region since 2019, and it was a moment of pride not only for David but for the entire journalism community.

The awards vetting committee, led by Professor David Millar, president of the Millar Institute for Transdisciplinary and Development Studies, played a crucial role in identifying David Azure's exceptional contributions to health reporting. His dedication and commitment to bringing important health-related issues to the forefront were acknowledged with this esteemed recognition.

David Azure, in his post event speech, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the GJA and the awards committee for this honor. He also extended his appreciation to his colleagues at 1A Radio for their support and the platform they provided for him to showcase his journalistic talents over the past few years. Additionally, he thanked his family and friends for their unwavering support and words of encouragement throughout his career.

One of the key messages in his speech emphasized the importance of journalism in society. He highlighted that journalists do not work in isolation but rely on the information available on the ground to advocate for necessary development and changes in their communities, regions, and the country as a whole. He called upon heads of organizations, departments, and stakeholders to willingly provide journalists with the essential information needed to fulfill their duties effectively.

David Azure's plea for support from various sectors resonated strongly with the audience. He firmly believes that without a vibrant and supported journalism community, no nation can achieve the necessary development it aspires to. He concluded his speech by urging everyone to show appreciation for journalists' vital role and collectively support them in carrying out their mandate to contribute to the betterment of the nation.
