Meet Apigsiya Haminatu, The Ghanaian Nurse Who Helped A Woman Deliver A Baby In A Keke Without Apparatus At Her Disposal

A Ghanaian nurse has earned the respect and praise on social media after a heroic act she exhibited in saving two lives (a mother and her baby)in a KeKe (Mahama Cando).

Narrating how it happened, the nurse, Apigsiya Haminatu indicated that she boarded a KeKe from Bolgatanga, the capital of the Upper East region to go to Pogmolega Sirigu. She said she boarded the ride with two other persons of which a pregnant woman was among them.

A few minutes after departing from the Bolgatanga township, the nurse after discovering that the pregnant woman started experiencing unusual feelings, asked her if she needed help which she declined and assured the nurse that she would be fine.

The nurse suggested that they go to the regional hospital, after learning that the pregnant woman was beginning to sweat profusely but the woman assured them that she could endure the pain until they get to Zorko in the Bongo District where she has been going for her ANC.

A mid-way on their journey to the Zorko Hospital, the woman who was in labor could not withstand the pain any longer, she could not sit.

The brave nurse asked the K3K3 driver to pull up to the side of the road so she could examine the woman.

Apigsiya Haminatu further stated that when she checked the woman's dilation she realized that the baby was coming out with the head being visible.

She went on to say that before commencing the delivery process, she committed the situation to the hands of God.

A few minutes after commencing, Haminatu managed to control the situation and safely delivered the woman with no hospital or apparatus at her disposal.

The woman was sent to the St. Theresa Health Center in Zorko after the safe delivery.

Apigsiya Haminatu is a Registered General Nurse (RGN) from Pogmolego Sirigu in the Kasina Nankana District of the Upper East region.
