After hinting to the general public of their plans to increase transport fares to match the rise of fuel prices, the Ghana Private Road Transportation Union announced the increment which took effect on Saturday, October 29, 2022.
The 19℅ increments by the GPRTU were highly welcomed by Transport operators across the country.
This increment has rendered persons who patronize public buses restless considering the excruciating pain the citizens are enduring due to the economic crisis.
A middle-aged man reportedly lost his life after he was allegedly beaten by a group of drivers and mates in Lapaz, Accra.
According to a narration by one Antwi Edmond, the deceased who was told the fare was increased by Gh¢2, paid though but complained consistently in the commercial bus.
The driver got angry at the young man’s complaints midway through the journey and returned to the bus terminal.
Antwi Edmond narrated that all the passengers were asked to disembark but the disgruntled passenger refused to get down from the bus as instructed by the driver.
After a few minutes of failed persuasion, force was applied, making the passenger to get down.
A brawl ensued making the driver, his mate, and other drivers at the terminal gang against the passenger. After a few minutes of the fight, the passenger lost his life.
He lost is life after one unawares punch which made his head hit on the pavement at the terminal.

The Massive increment in the Price caused Brouhaha in our vehicle, so a Male passenger who couldn’t stop talking after everyone was calm at some point, kept annoying the driver and his mate,to the extent the driver had 2 stop at Mile 7 rasta park area and return to de terminal.
The Driver returned his car to the Lapaz bus terminal again and there, they had support of their co-workers at the terminal, we were all asked to get down from the bus, but the man causing the chaos still insisted he is not getting down. Persuasion failed and force was applied.
During the force applied by the trotro mates at the station, the man decided to fight them back which lead to a huge fight between him and our bus conductor and his mate with a backing of their co-workers after several minutes of fight, this male passenger lost his life.
He lost is life after one unawares punch ,which made his head hit on of the pavement at the terminal and lost his precious life. May his soul rest in a perfect peace😢. I can’t believe he lost his life sake of 2 cedis increment.
His corpse being carried in a taxi to a nearby hospital 😢.”
