ORGIIS Ghana develop master plan for Konkua community in disaster management

ORGIIS Ghana a local non-profit non-governmental organization (NGO) founded operate in northern Ghana has developed a Master plans at Konkua community in the Bongo district of the Upper East Region on disaster management.

ORGIIS Ghana though engagement with the community have been able to developed a plan on issues of floods and drought management as a farming community.

Speaking at the community engagement meeting programs manager Mr. Clifford Amoah said, the plan have been together with the community has been develop is dictate early signs of disasters like floods and droughts and also how to mitigate those challenges.

"In fact, the plan is something that is suppose to help the community to be to deal with flooding situations or emergency situations in the community when they occur, and there are various roles that are been assigned to the various stakeholders in the community as incorporated into the plan so that they can be able to work together with those stakeholders in addressing the challenges that the community is likely to face when floods occur when it comes to the flood problems"



According to Mr. Amoah, in order have effective management of the system, all stakeholders within community where fully involved for the development of the plan.

“So as an organization, They led the community through a process of community participation and development of flood and drought management plan for konkua community where they brought all the stakeholders involved in the community into developing this plan”

Mr. Amoah noted that, the Bongo- Konkua community was choice because they was an assessment which was done by Volta basin Authority indicates that floods and droughts situations in the community is problematic hence the need for a management or mitigation to the menace.

As part of the project ORGIIS Ghana has also provided training for the community members who are known as committee members leading the rescue and response team in the community in case of disaster.

The program manager Mr. Clifford Amoah used the opportunity and plead on Traditional leaders and community members to work accurately with them because they can see some positive results in the near future with regards to control of floods and droughts when everything is well executed as expected.
