Tamale: Teacher jailed 7 years for defiling 18 pupils in months

A teacher of the Kupil JHS in Tamale in the Northern Region of Ghana has been jailed for 7 years for defiling 18 pupils of the school.

The 32-year-old Social Studies teacher Natogmah Yamousa Otabil was sentenced by His Lordship Alexander Oware at the Tamale Circuit Court on Tuesday.

Yamousa Otabil was detained by Salaga police in September of last year as a result of a report from the East Gonja Municipal Education Director over some alleged sodomy.

Prior until now, the accused admitted guilt to every charge brought against him.

Therefore, on Thursday, November 4, 2021, he granted bail.

The judge granted his defence attorney’s request for a psychiatric evaluation.

The Presiding Judge rejected the reports of the initial test done at Pantang Hospital in Accra, which led to a second examination at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

The case was repeatedly postponed until Tuesday, August 9, when the verdict was given.
