The auditor general should audit the board, commissioners and all the staff of GRA - Nana kweku ofori Atta

The Government of Ghana should insist the Auditor-General audits all Ghana Revenue Authority Board of (GRA), Commissioners and staff across the breadth and length of the country. There have been some series of alleged conspired corrupt practices most are engaging in with certain private companies to enrich themselves.

The core mandate of GRA is to ensure maximum compliance with all relevant tax laws in order to ensure a sustainable revenue stream for government, trade facilitation and a controlled and safe flow of goods across the country's borders.

Instead of assisting the state as an institution, it is alleged that certain individuals/staff of GRA are rather collecting the funds to enrich themselves. This is a very bad practice if it is true.

It is alleged that some of these employees of GRA take bribes from business owners to do them favors such as under-declaration of income. It is also alleged that some staff go about threatening business owners to lock up their establishments.
No wonder it is said that if one wants to become rich as an employee of GRA, he/she would have to be corrupt.

People join GRA and in a few years they are seen building mansions, driving expensive cars, and living luxuriously.

It is time for the government of Ghana to ask the Auditor-General to audit all employees of GRA to curb the alleged corrupt practices.

Also, I recommend that after the auditing, there must be massive transfers of staff across the country, since most of the staff have been at their respective branches for far too long.

I suggest that GRA builds a centralized secured data base system with a tight security features that will protect the integrity of the institution.

GRA should focus on adding value to the economic growth of the nation, instead of focusing on how to enrich themselves.
