29 Year Old Farmer Jailed For Defrauding

Noah Friko, a 29-year-old farmer, was sentenced to 12 months in prison by the Nkwanta Magistrate Court in the Oti Region for defrauding Mr. Alhaji Tijani Sheibu, a businessman in Nkwanta, with false pretenses and seizing his property.

Mr. Noah Friko pled guilty to his offense, and Mr. Joseph Evans Annan Okropa, the presiding judge, sentenced him accordingly.

The prosecutor, Police Detective Inspector Bright Nkansah, told the court that on April 4, the defendant went to Alhaji Sheibu to persuade him to purchase some timbers.

Alhaji Tijani consented to the price of GHC 1,300 for the lumber and paid GHC 1,240, leaving GHC 60.

However, the complainant instructed the offender to deliver the timber to his site in Kabre-Akura, a suburb in the Nkwanta South Municipality, according to the prosecutor.

Inspector Nkansah reported that a few days later, the complainant instructed his carpenter to use the lumber to complete a task on-site, but the carpenter discovered that some of the old stock had been stolen and the new stock had not been delivered.

According to him, Convict seized some of the marked lumber without his knowledge, removing approximately 105 of the product.

According to the prosecution, the convict was apprehended and turned over to the police on April 17, when he returned to Alhaji Sheibu for the remaining funds.

After an investigation, he was subsequently sentenced to one year in prison with forced labor.
