60 Ministers Will Not Benefit From Ex Gratia In My New Government - John Mahama

John Mahama, the newly elected flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has stated that, if elected president, he will run a frugal government.

Mr. Mahama stated that he is dedicated to preventing his government from becoming a burden on the public purse.

Additionally, the former president stated that the sixty ministers who will serve in his government will not be eligible for ex gratia payments.

Monday, May 15 at the University of Development Studies in Tamale, he asked Ghanaians to hold him accountable for his promise.

"I am devoted to running an efficient administration with no more than sixty (60) ministers.

"These ministers and other government appointees will not be eligible for ex-gratia payments following their terms in office, as they will commit to this condition even before the necessary constitutional amendments, including a review of the controversial Article 71."

In addition, Mr. Mahama stated that the next NDC administration will reconsider the tax exemption regime.

"The NDC will reconsider the tax exemption regime to ensure that the exemptions are in the best interests of the Ghanaian people.

"We will further ensure that the extractive sector operates within a mutually beneficial tax environment for the stability of the exchange rate," he added.
