Accra Zoo To Relocate Ghanaian Billionaire Cheddar's Tigers To Their Premises

Accra Zoo will contain tigers acquired from Cheddar

The Accra Zoological Gardens, also known as Accra Zoo, will shortly house the tigers that Cheddar, a businessman, brought into the country less than a year ago.

Cheddar, whose actual name is Nana Kwame Bediako, stated that he brought the two tigers into the country to increase its tourism value.

However, the authorities and the Forestry Commission's Wildlife Division relocated the two cubs.

Mr. Paul Addah, manager of the zoo, stated in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, "The tigers that were with Cheddar will be brought into the facility very soon."

However, he declined to speculate on the animals' location.

Mr. Addah stated that the Zoo administration intended to increase the number of species based on their ecological behavior and acceptability.

"As a zoo, we maintain the species for the enjoyment and amusement of our visitors, but we also breed and reintroduce them into their natural ecosystems," he explained.

Mr. Addah stated that Management would continue to value the patronage of both domestic and international guests, and that they would strive to increase revenue.

There are currently 30 species of animals in the menagerie, with approximately 160 individual species.

The Zoo received a total of 45,000 visitors in 2022. This year, from January to the present, the facility has received approximately 11,000 visitors, including 6,000 in March alone.

Improvements have been made to the Zoo's recreational facilities and the safety of both animals and visitors. There is space for parties, picnics, and anniversaries.
