Amerado Wins Best Rapper Award At VGMA 24

Amerado is the first rapper from Kumasi to receive best rapper award at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

In the music industry, reputation is everything.

And recognition came in a big manner for Ghanaian rapper Amerado at the 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) when he became the first Kumasi rapper to win Best Rapper.

Last night's award ceremony in Ghana was one of the most prestigious events in the country's music industry.

Derrick Sarfo Kantanka, born Amerado, is a Ghanaian rapper renowned for his distinctive narrative and rap delivery. He began his music career in 2015 and has since released several hit tracks, including "Yeete Nsem", which has become a popular series in Ghana. The combination of witty wordplay and storytelling in Amerado's rap technique has earned him a large following in Ghana and beyond.

At the 2023 VGMA, Amerado defeated Teephlow, Medikal, Strongman, and Lyrical Joe to win the award for Best Rapper. His victory was a significant accomplishment for Kumasi rap and a testament to his talent and dedication.

The award was well-deserved, as Amerado's music delivery has been consistent, and each release demonstrates his artistic development. Beginning as a weekly rap news review on social media, his "Yeete Nsem" series has become a cultural phenomenon in Ghana. The series covers a broad range of topics, from politics to social issues, and has accumulated a substantial fan base.

Amerado's victory at the VGMA is not only a personal accomplishment, but also a triumph for Kumasi rap. Kumasi, located in the Ashanti region of Ghana, has produced a number of talented rappers, such as Flowking Stone, King Paluta, Strongman, and Phrimpong. However, Kumasi rap has frequently been overshadowed by Accra-based performers' dominance in the Ghanaian music industry.

Amerado's victory has brought Kumasi rap the recognition it deserves, and other Kumasi-based rappers can now aspire to attain similar success. The victory also demonstrates that talent can be found anywhere, and that artists should not be restricted by their location.
