Asiedu Nketia Attacks Police Service For Facilitating NPP's Win In Assin North By-Elections

Johnson Asiedu Nketia, national chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has accused the police providing security in the Assin North Constituency in the Central Region of plotting to help the governing party win Tuesday's by-elections.

Prior to the by-election, he said, there has been no meeting with the leaders of the various political parties, a situation that only breeds suspicion among the parties.

"These are all deliberate mechanisms to ensure that the elections are rigged," he said during an interview on Sunday, June 25 in an interview in Assin North.

On Monday, June 26, a meeting has been scheduled between the Ghana Police Service and the leadership of the various political parties.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia is unconvinced, however, as he asserts that less than twenty-four hours before D-day, it is impossible to prevent a security danger.

Despite this, he pledged to collaborate with the state's security agencies to guarantee peaceful elections on Tuesday.

"We still believe that we have no choice but to cooperate with state security even if security is to be provided by the police service that is organizing medical screening to facilitate the victory of the NPP."

The NDC has maintained James Gyakye Quayson for the by-elections despite his election in 2020 being declared null and void with no legal effect by the courts.

The NPP has replaced Mr. Quayson with Charles Opoku, a native of the same town, Assin Breku, as Mr. Quayson.
