Bawumia Have Our Support Because He Is Competent - Chief Akilu Sayibu

Chief Akilu Sayibu, a former Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority and 2012 NPP parliamentary candidate for the Tamale North Constituency, has stated that his support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's candidacy is based on his competence and integrity, and not because he is a Muslim.

Chief Akilu Sayibu, a member of the Council of Patrons of the NPP in the Northern Region, told the media in Tamale that Dr. Bawumia is the best candidate for the NPP's endeavors to break the eight and should be supported by all.

Dr. Bawumia, who has served the NPP with utmost dedication and loyalty, has the necessary experience and qualifications to become the next President of Ghana, according to Chief Akilu.


Chief Akilu, who was also a member of the NPP's Northern Region 2020 Campaign Team, characterized as primitive those who campaigned along religious and tribal lines. Therefore, he cautioned perpetrators against pursuing this line of thought, as "the upcoming presidential primaries of the NPP were not a conference to elect the next Pope for the Vatican or Imam of Mecca."

In response to a query about the NPP's chances of breaking the eight, Chief Akilu stated that if breaking the eight was impossible, then the idea of a former or retired president staging a comeback after enjoying his ex gratia is a mirage.

Chief Akilu was confident that Dr. Bawumia will win both the internal and general elections in 2024, and he therefore implored the delegates at both the special congress and the main primaries to vote en masse for Dr. Bawumia in the interest of mother Ghana.
