Community Nurses Attacked By Illegal Miners In Eastern Region

Galamseyers Assault Community Nurses At Akyem Osorase
Two young men believed to be illegal miners attacked two community nurses operating at the Akyem Osorase CHPs compound in Achiase District in the Eastern region.

Cecilia Brago, one of the nurses, was severely assaulted, whereas Gifty Osei, another nurse, managed to flee into a safe environment

Cecilia Brago, the victim reported that one of the suspects arrived at the facility on a motorcycle while intoxicated and began insulting everyone and threatening to attack them without provocation as he banged on the door of the CHP's compound.

He stated that he was seeking medical treatment for his injuries.

The nurse stated that when the facility's gate was opened, the suspect's threats escalated, so they declined to treat him there for safety reasons and referred him to Oda Government Hospital.

A few minutes later, he fled the facility on his motorcycle and returned with another young man to assault them.

"He attacked me, shoved me against the wall, and then began to pummel me. My other colleague was able to flee into hiding and summon for police assistance, but it took the police 45 minutes to arrive, by which time the suspects had fled.

Fear-stricken, Gifty Osei pleaded for private security at the facility, stating that they are paralyzed by it.

Although the suspects are from the community, they no longer reside there.

However, police have begun their investigation.
