Government Will Protect Forest Reserves From Attacks - Lands Minister

Abu Jinapor guarantees that the government will protect forest reserves from attack

The Lands Ministry, according to Minister of Lands Samuel Abu Jinapor, will continue to implement measures to protect forest reserves from intrusion.

First, we must protect our country's forest reserves, and second, we must engage in aggressive afforestation and reforestation.

"Protection will entail ensuring that the diverse forest reserves of our nation are safeguarded, protected from the assault of deforestation, agricultural expansion, cocoa expansion, and illegal mining, all of which contribute to forest degradation and deforestation."

He stated that the Forestry Commission has implemented adequate measures to ensure the protection of the country's forest reserves and that the Ministry will "continue to implement these measures to ensure that these forest reserves are protected from attack or from the causes of deforestation and forest degradation."

"I want to assure the Ghanaian people that the government is taking every possible measure to protect the forest reserves of our country," he said.

He added, "Recently, two or three weeks ago, we held a retreat at which the Forestry Commission briefed cabinet on the steps being taken to protect our country's forest reserves."

According to Mr. Jinapor, the Lands Ministry is carrying out its responsibilities with honesty and openness in order to preserve the integrity of the landscape and forest reserves.
