The incident was confirmed by the PRO of the Kano State Police Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who said that the suspects asked for a ransom of N20 million, but it was later reduced to N5 million before he strangled the victim to death.

SP Abdullahi said that after the victim's father reported the incident, the Kano State ordered the police to trace the suspects, and four of them were finally arrested in their hideout located in Yantama Village, Doguwa LGA.

The prime suspect, a 29-year-old man named Ado Ibrahim, confessed that around 7:00 p.m. on October 27, 2022, he lured the victim to a bush where he strangled him. The body of the victim was later recovered by the police and taken to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

After the suspects were arrested and taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department, some angry youths went and burned their houses to the ground.
