I'm Really Disappointed In Your Government - Former Minister Blasts Prez Akufo-Addo

Former Minister for Gender and Children Affairs Otiko Afisa Djaba has criticized the Akufo-Addo administration for its treatment of school caterers.

She stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government must make amends with the Ghanaian people.

According to her, Ghanaians placed their lives and futures in the hands of the ruling government when they voted for the NPP in the 2020 elections, so it is incumbent upon the government to make better decisions.

Her remarks follow an outcry by some caterers in the Ashanti Region, who have expressed their displeasure with the delay in payment of their arrears and the 97 pesewas given to children.

"I am extremely furious with my administration. She stated that prompt action is not taken in response to issues such as these regarding caterers.

"When one million people vote for you, you must treat them with respect. This is not about politics; it is about the improvement of the people, in collaboration with the people. Providing them with the required information. Where you cannot encounter someone, converse with them. They are human beings who will comprehend because the NPP is a government that listens. These are serious times, and we must make serious decisions.

"Food prices are comparable around the globe, not just in Ghana, so why are you a leader? You are a problem-solving leader," she added.

"I have no cause for annoyance; my party makes me so happy, and I am very pleased of them. Akyia, emmu y3! However, we must be serious and recognize that it is a privilege to be in this position, which you will never again enjoy. You alone among the 30 million Ghanaians have been entrusted with bringing Ghana to the next level.

"Let's die trying, let's put the structures in place, let's reignite the battle we fought during the campaign, and open fire; then the people of Ghana will realize that we are sincere about their development, and we will regain their trust. Remove the apathy. There are problems, but what existence is devoid of problems? It is our time to get it right, and we must perish getting it right, which is why I am so angry, and why I want all the ministers and appointees, as well as everyone who believes in Ghana, to become sufficiently angry. And the government should not interpret the criticism as an attempt to humiliate them; rather, it should be viewed as an opportunity to improve.

"The Ghanaian people are counting on us to do the right thing, so if we are still alive today, let's do everything in our power. All obstacles are opportunities for us to think creatively and achieve success. Ghana deserves it, and so do you and I," she added.

While emphasizing that her statements have nothing to do with personal grievances, the former minister stated that she is merely concerned that the party appears to have lost the confidence of Ghanaians with some of their decisions, urging them to do the right thing instead of focusing on political gains.
