John Dumelo Warns Late MP's Wife After NDC's Victory At Assin North

In response to the results of the by-election in Assin North, John Dumelo stated, "Lydia Seyram, your downfall is next."

John Dumelo, a Ghanaian actor and politician, has cautioned Lydia Alhassan Seyram, a candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency in the 2020 election, to prepare for defeat in the 2024 election.

The statement was sent via Twitter on June 27, 2023. Dumelo had just celebrated the National Democratic Congress' (NDC) victory in the Assin North by-election, in which James Gyakye Quayeson defeated Charles Opoku, the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) candidate.

John Dumelo, who stood for the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat for the first time on the NDC ticket in the previous election, tweeted, "Lydia Seyram Alhassan, your downfall is next!"

Both the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress have been prominent in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency. Dumelo and Lydia Alhassan ran a closely contested campaign against Seyram in the 2020 elections.

However, Dumelo's warning indicates that he remains committed to competing for the seat in the upcoming elections.

The NDC candidate for Assin North defeated the NPP candidate, resulting in a monumental victory for the opposition party.

According to the Electoral Commission's announcement, James Gyakye Quayson received 17,245 votes, or 57.56 percent of the total votes cast. His closest competitor, Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), received 12,630 votes, or 42.15 percent of the vote. Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) received 87 votes, or 0.29% of the total.

A by-election was conducted in Assin North to fill the vacant parliamentary seat caused by a legal dispute over Quayson's eligibility to hold office due to dual citizenship issues.
