Gregory Nii Bortey Newman, also known as King Promise, a Ghanaian Afrobeats musician, has responded to claims that he did not deserve Album of the Year at the recent 24th VGMA.
Speaking on UTV's showbiz night, the Terminator hitmaker acknowledged that people are entitled to their opinions and thoughts, but he believes he worked twice as hard to win Album of the Year.
"Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I'm fine with that. People had a problem when, beginning in 2019, I was unable to accept any awards, but that's the nature of the game.
I adore Black Sherrif and appreciate his album; every nominee in that category deserves it, but it's an honor to be recognized for my efforts.
I'm grateful for the recognition, and I appreciate my fans for believing in my talent and supporting me. Regardless of how others may feel, it's my moment to shine, and I relish it.
Camidoh, King Promise, Gyakie, Kidi, Wendy Shay, and Kelvyn Boy were defeated by KingPromise to win 'Album of the Year' and 'Best Afrobeats/Afropop Artiste' respectively.
