Kumawood Actress Portia Asare Finally Speaks On Union Travel Agency Scam Issues

Union Travel and Recruitment, formerly known as Travel and Tours and a subsidiary of Union Group of Companies, has been having a difficult time with its dissatisfied consumers for the past few months as a result of operational difficulties.

Customers of the travel and recruitment company have taken the law into their own hands by attacking the Chief Executive Officer of Union Group of Companies, the brand ambassador of the company, Portia Asare Boateng, and a few staff members of the company over the non-provision of their travel permits/documents or their unpaid visa application facilitation and processing fees refund.

Unfortunately, vlogs and other news blogs are spreading false information about the failed visa acquisition and the company without recourse to the tenets and established procedures for addressing such matters.

In an exclusive interview , the Chief Executive Officer of Union Group of Companies Limited, Dr. Augustine Opoku Agyemang, divulged some information regarding the events that led to the narrative. He indicates that it is regrettable that the situation has taken this turn. It is not intended to deceive an individual or a group of people.

The essence of the dispute is that the Managing Director, Madam Maud Opoku Agyemang, the then General Manager, Mr Evans Adawu, and the Manager of Union Travel and Tour were responsible for the consumers who paid for visa processing.

He indicated that clients were greeted, briefed on the offers at stake, and advised to confer with their legal counsel to determine whether or not they wished to participate in the available offers.

According to the chief executive officer, the agent Sabi Debrah did not fulfill her vow to secure visas for 313 applicants. After numerous attempts to have her arrested, Queen Sabby Debrah reportedly went into seclusion after refusing to return the money to the company.

The source reported that the manager of the Travel and Tour company, Daniel Brako, and another staff member, whose name is withheld because internal investigations are ongoing, failed to issue receipts to some customers who paid money to obtain visas to Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Australia, respectively.

As of May 5, 2023, the company cannot access a total of GH713,000 reportedly paid to Madam Maud Opoku Agyemang, managing director of the Union Group of Companies.

The company's audit report and bank statement revealed that such a sum was not deposited into its account. As the case has been reported to the police for investigation, it is unknown where the 713 thousand Ghana cedis were secreted off by these company employees.

Dr. Opoku Agyeman stated that these issues should not be presented to clients because it is the responsibility of the UGCL to keep their word; consequently, "we, as a company, were and are focused on meeting the engagement terms."

Inadvertently, the disgruntled customers falsely accused the chief executive officer of Union Group of Companies and the brand ambassador, Portia Asare Boateng, of misappropriating their funds.

Following a series of meetings with the dissatisfied customers, the Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Augustine Opoku Agyemang, pledged to refund the money owed to all customers whose visa processing failed, provided that the customer attaches their authentic receipts to a letter requesting a refund from the company.

True to his word, the CEO ordered a full refund, as 46 consumers have already been refunded and the staff is working on the remaining refunds.

Assault on the Union Group of Companies Personnel

Dr. Augustine Opoku Agyemang has expressed displeasure over the assault on staff by irate customers who were upset over unpaid currency.

According to him, identified customers invaded the Westland office and looted it. The lives of the office's employees were spared by the prompt response of the Westland Police.

Once more, consumers traveled to the Techiman and Sunyani branches to attack employees with cutlasses, but were arrested by police.

Portia Asare, the Union Group of Companies' brand ambassador, was assaulted.

Dr. Augustine Opoku Agyemang has cautioned disgruntled clients against threatening the actress Portia Asare over unresolved debts. He also warned bloggers against spreading false information about the brand's representative.

According to the chief executive officer, the brand ambassador performed her duties as anticipated but was never responsible for the visa funds paid to the company.

Some customers have assaulted Portia's husband, ignorantly asserting that the actress collected those visa fees in order to improve her husband's work.

As claimed by some individuals, actress Portia Asare Boateng is not a con artist. The actress's brand is of the utmost importance to UGCL administration, and they would never do anything to jeopardize her reputation. Portia has been defrauded, if there is such a thing, by Queen Sabby, who failed to secure a visa for her voyage after receiving funds from our Brand Ambassador.

Portia, who is concerned about the misappropriation of funds by the aforementioned members of the company's staff, is optimistic that all aggrieved customers will be refunded accordingly.

She is simply distressed by the fact that so many individuals have taken to her social media pages to attack her without first seeking clarification on the events. She took advantage of the opportunity afforded to her by our pursuit for the truth in the circumstances to apologize to the numerous clients who had to endure this ordeal.

Portia indicated that she utilized her position as Brand Ambassador to intervene in the effort to obtain redress for the problem, but had to cease when she began to be verbally threatened, cursed, and emotionally abused.

She hopes and prays that a permanent solution will be found to this problem so that sleeping dogs can rest in tranquility.

She concluded, "Our occupation entails such risks."

Concerning Union Group of Firms

The Union Group of Companies is one of Ghana's most diversified holding firms, with operations in other African nations and Europe.

The company has business interests in approximately ten economic sectors, with its largest operations in Real Estate, Philanthropy, and Multimedia, in addition to Automobile and Transport.

The company claims a large workforce of young and old talented and skilled employees with a good gender, racial, and social stratification balance to assist their clients in seeing the world differently and discovering new opportunities. The Union Group of Companies has developed solid relationships with the government and other enterprises.

There are many students who, if not for UGCL's scholarships, would be at home without any prospect of furthering their education. Some schools have received assistance to construct or renovate their facilities.

Since its inception, UGCL has complied with all Ghanaian legal requirements for businesses.

Reaction of three accused individuals

Republic Press attempted to contact Daniel Brako, Evans Adawu, Maud Opoku Agyemang, and Sabi Debrah, but were unsuccessful.
