Man Who Was Painfully Jailed For Sleeping In Ex Black Star's Player Narrates Story

Isaac Odoom, a 64-year-old charcoal burner, is serving a one-year sentence at the Winneba Local Prison for breaking into the home of former Black Stars defender John Paintsil.

Isaac Odoom recounted the unfortunate occurrences that led to his legal troubles.

According to the detainee of the Winneba Local Prison, he was misled by a new acquaintance he made while conducting charcoal business in Besease.

"We are arrested for sleeping in a stranger's home. The home in which we stayed belonged to the football player John Paintsil. I was unaware that it was his residence, but someone led me there. The individual initially failed to inform me that the residence belonged to Joseph Paintsil.

"I discovered it a day after we stayed there. I'm from Ajumako, but we burned charcoal in Besease. Normally, we sleep at the work site, but because I was new to the village, I had to lie with a local. The individual stated that we were going to sleep somewhere, so I assumed we were going to his home. When we arrived, he requested that we use the window side and explained that he was having problems with his mother and didn't want her to see us.

"It was an abandoned home, so nothing was inside. The home was the subject of litigation, so it contained nothing. "Two days after I returned to my hometown from Besease, I was informed that someone had been arrested for sleeping in John Paintsil's house, and that person named me as his accomplice," he explained.

According to Isaac Odoom, he pled guilty to two of the three charges brought against him.

The charge of larceny was dismissed, but he was found guilty of trespassing and unlawful entry.

"We were accused of unlawful entry and encroachment on private property. Additionally, we were accused of stealing a mattress. I pleaded not guilty to the larceny charge but guilty to the remaining charges. I was fined GHC1,440, but I was unable to pay", he explained.
