Momo scams, when con artists call victims to trick them into parting with money from their mobile money wallet, have become more prevalent recently.

According to an audio recording, the con artist called the victim and asked for the remaining amount of his money (a swindle they deploy on unwary victims), but the intelligent victim went through with it.

The customer apologized to the fraudster for the delay and promised to pay him only GHC 300 so that he would release the vehicle part to him so he could replace his car, which was damaged and blocking the highway.

Additionally, the client informed him that he had instructed his friend to pay him the funds, and she then gave him the friend's purported phone number for him to call.

He dialed the number, but no one picked up. When he complained to the customer that his partner wasn't returning his calls, the customer came up with a plausible explanation that persuaded the con artist.

The client then asserted that he (the customer) had no call credit left on his phone to call his friend and asked the fraudster to send him airtime so he may call his friend.

The scammer gave in and sent him airtime to phone his friend, fooling him into believing he would receive free money.
