My Father Is Musically Talented , He Edits Lines In My Songs Before They Are Released - Black Sherif

The 23VGMA artist of the year, Black Sherif, disclosed that his father edits some of his compositions prior to their release.

Black Sherif stated in an interview on United Showbiz on UTV that he has a healthy relationship with his parents, who have supported him since the start of his music career and allowed him to demonstrate his talent to the world.

The Kweku The Traveler hitmaker stated that his parents inspired him to pursue a career in music by playing Ghanaian music legends' songs.

Black Sherif added that his father would advise him to slightly alter a line in a song to enhance its meaning and lyrical impact. Blacko claimed that he did so frequently.

"I send my parents some of my music to listen to. My father is musically talented; he would listen to my composition and suggest that this line could be improved by moving in this or that direction. They have always had faith in me and have folded their arms to observe my success. Nobody prevented me," he stated.

Black Sherif was born and reared in the Ashanti Region of Ghana's Konongo-Zongo. At the age of 10, Black Sherif lived with his aunt and other extended family members because both of his parents were abroad. Early on, his nomadic lifestyle exposed him to numerous influences and diverse cultures.

He received his elementary education at Konongo Zongo Islamic Basic School and his junior high education (J.H.S.) at Pinamang Educational Complex. He completed his secondary education at Kumasi Academy, where he developed an appreciation for music and dance.

Formerly enrolled at the University of Professional Studies (UPSA), he is now enrolled at the University of Ghana.

2019 marked the debut of Black Sherif's career with the publication of "Cry for Me" on YouTube. The music video for his debut single "Money" was published on May 25, 2020. His single "First Sermon" was published in May 2021, expanding his audience. The song's sequel, "Second Sermon," was published in July alongside a remix featuring Burna Boy, a fellow African artist.

His breakthrough came in March 2022 with the release of "Kwaku the Traveller," which topped the Apple Music rankings in Ghana and Nigeria and became his most popular song. In October, he released his debut album, The Villain I Never Was, with the singles "45" and "Soja" as support.

Black Sherif performed at the OVO Arena in Wembley, UK, for the 25th anniversary of the Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards. Accra hosted Black Sherif's debut concert, "Mozama Disco Concert", in December 2022.

Black Sherif claimed the award for Best Hip Hop at the Soundcity MVP Awards, held at the Eko Convention Center in Lagos on 20 February 2023.

The music of Black Sherif is a fusion of highlife, reggae, and hip-hop, specifically UK drill. He has stated that Kanye West, Travis Scott, Saint John, Dave, Stormzy, J Hus, and the Ghanaian artists Mugeez and Sarkodie are his musical influence.

On 11 April 2022, a violation of contract claim was filed against Black Sherif after he signed a contract with Empire. Shadrach Agyei Owusu, the chief executive officer of Waynes Chavis Consult, asked the court to prohibit Black Sherif from performing at events without his permission. Fortunately for Black Sherif, the Accra High Court (Commercial Division) dismissed the injunction submitted against him, which aimed to prevent the singer from performing music released under his previous management.
