My Father Was Not A Good Father - Fela Kuti's Daughter

Yeni Kuti, the daughter of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, has stated that her father was a poor parent.

According to Yeni, her father was always at odds with his oldest son, Femi. She never confronted her father about not being a decent father because she believes it was clear to everyone in the family, including him.

"He was not exactly a decent father. No [I've never told him he's a bad father]. Maybe Femi, not me. Femi and Fela used to engage in combat. In an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, she stated, "Femi will give him the truth."

"Shola and I, we were like bashful. They say that when two elephants are battling, the grass will remain silent.

"I recall one day when Fela told three of us that we were unproductive children. Why did Femi just say that? After Femi turned to face him, they turned to face each other. Shola and I will say it's alright. Fela will say, No. And Femi just said, let him go."

"I don't recall ever having such a confrontation with my father. Perhaps because I was a woman," Yeni said.
