NDC Primaries: My Rivals Camped Delegates As Kids And Lured Them With Money - Prof. Avea Nsoh

Prof. Avea Nsoh, a former Upper East Regional Minister, disclosed that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries in the Bongo Constituency were characterized by monetary inducements and lodging of delegates.

Prof. Avea, a parliamentary candidate in the recently concluded NDC primaries in the Bongo Constituency, bemoaned what he described as an insult and disrespect to the delegates of the party when they were camped by his rivals, given money, and their votes were confiscated to prevent them from communicating with him.

In an interview on Bolgatanga's Dreamz FM that was monitored by Chris News Media, the unsuccessful parliamentary candidate accused Edward Bawa and Charles Bawadua of doling out between GHC 500 and GHC 1,000 to each delegate.

"That evening, it's conceivable that we didn't know until Thursday, my other coworkers went on a camping and incentive trip. The most irritating aspect was that they kept them in that location, policing them like children and dispatching my employees to monitor.

They policed them, forced them in, confiscated their phones, and forbade them to leave. They say, "Put your car here, then go vote and return to get your money and leave," he said.

In addition, he stated that he would have won the May 23, 2023 parliamentary primaries in Bongo Constituency if not for the monetary inducements, mouth-watering promises, malevolent falsehoods spread about him, and the last-minute camping of delegates by his rivals.

"This is corruption and extremely disrespectful to our delegates. It would be impossible for the two Bawas to defeat me, even if they were given money and allowed to vote immediately. They were incapable of defeating me. It is impossible," he continued.

Former Minister expressed concern over the level of monetization of politics in Ghana, particularly within the National Democratic Congress, which he implied is an affront to the principles and tenets of the umbrella party as a people's party.

Lawyer Charles Bawadua, the elected NDC candidate for the Bongo Constituency, received 535 ballots to win the party's internal election.

Edward Bawa received 509 ballots, while Professor Avea Nsah received 75 votes.
