NPP Aspirant Dr. Akoto Afriyie Still Confident To Win Flagbearership Race

Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, the Agric Minister candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has disregarded polls indicating that his opponents are ahead of him in the election.

After receiving nomination forms at his campaign headquarters, which were collected on his behalf by campaign staff, Dr. Akoto exhorted his supporters to disregard such polls.

Multiple polls, including one conducted by Global Info Analytics, indicate that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and former Trades Minister Alan Kyerematen are the leading candidates for the party leadership in the 2024 general election.

However, Dr. Akoto emphasized that his opponents fund the polls and questioned the veracity of such surveys.

"The issue is that I've never sponsored a poll, so determine who is sponsoring these polls. People would say I'm annoyed if I sponsored a poll, but I won't because it would be self-defeating and futile, so all polls can say whatever they want.

"We are cognizant of our on-the-ground actions. What matters are the 900 individuals who will vote in the special delegates conference and the 200,000 delegates who will vote in November, not the results of the polls. These surveys' reliability must be called into doubt."

On Monday, May 29, Dr. Akoto's campaign team expressed confidence that his exemplary performance at the Ministry of Agriculture will be enough to secure his election as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate.

Upon obtaining the presidential nomination form from the NPP headquarters, the team emphasized that the nomination forms were paid for by farmers and delegates from across the country who supported the former Agriculture Minister's efforts.

Dr. Prince Amuzu, the campaign spokesperson for Dr. Akoto, thanked farmers and delegates for their support and emphasized their confidence in his leadership abilities.

"We would like to extend our gratitude to the Ghanaian farmers and friends of Dr. Akoto who rallied this morning to make it possible for contest forms to be picked up at the party's headquarters," he said.
