NPP Can't Win Dome Kwabenya's Seat Without Hon. Adwoa Safo

Mussa Dankwah, CEO of Global InfoAnalytics, has predicted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will have a difficult time winning the 2024 general election in the Dome Kwabenya constituency if incumbent MP Sarah Adwoa Safo does not run again.

With the election of Elikplim Akurugu of the National Democratic Congress, he said it would be a Herculean effort for the New Patriotic Party to take the seat.

Elikplim received 1,564 votes in Saturday's NDC parliamentary elections. This is her second victory in the constituency's NDC parliamentary primaries.

Mussa Dankwah stated on Citi TV's Point of View with host Bernard Avle that the NPP's prospects of retaining the seat in 2024 are slim if the incumbent MP for Dome Kwabenya does not run again.

"If incumbent MP Sarah Adwoa Safoa is not running in Dome Kwabenya and Elikplim Akurugu is in the contest, the NPP will have a difficult time winning the upcoming parliamentary election. If Sarah Adwoa Safo does not run, there will be an open contest between the NPP and the NDC. One of the NPP's strongholds, Dome Kwabenya, has grown stronger under Sarah Adwoa Safo. If Adwoa Safo is not on the ballot in the general elections of 2024, believe me, the competition will be fierce," predicted Mussa Dankwah.

If Adwoa Safo declines to run in the NPP's primaries, he predicted that disgruntled NPP members in Dome Kwabenya would vote for Elikplim Akurugu in the general election.

"According to our polling, 45 percent of NPP victories came from Taifa North and Taifa South. In October 2022, when Sarah Adwoa Safo issues were the subject of our most recent poll, Elikplim Akurugu led in Taifa North. That is unprecedented. There are factions within the NPP in the district. People with grievances against the NPP will vote for Elikplim Akurugu, he stated.
