New Life Children's Home In Nugua Gets An Ultramodern Facility

Nii Afotey Botwe II, owner and founder of New Life Nungua Children's Home International, has expressed concern over the rising number of street children in the country, describing it as a security hazard.

The phenomenon he observed is a result of rapid urbanization and numerous difficult socioeconomic challenges rural families face, as well as the inability of children to access their rights to education, safety, quality healthcare, and a reasonable standard of living.

According to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, children should live in stable, loving, and nurturing environments, receive adequate health care and nutrition, and have equal opportunities to lead dignified and free lives. Unfortunately, street children do not have these protections.

Nii Afotey Botwe II made this claim at the inauguration of an ultramodern building for orphans, widows, and other disadvantaged members of society in Nungua.

The newly opened facility, a three-story building with over 65 rooms, accommodates over 700 children and is equipped with modern restrooms to provide them with a life of hope and relief from their hardships.

At a colorful ceremony in Nungua, Greater Accra, the structure was formally inaugurated, and a fundraiser was conducted to assist the disadvantaged who would move into the building.

The Proprietor and Founder of New Life Nungua Children's Home International, while speaking at the ceremony, noted that these street children are also at risk of being recruited into hazardous vices such as armed robbery, prostitution, and others. He noted that the failure of society to care for the unfortunate has resulted in the emergence of organizations such as those causing global problems.

Nii Afotey Botwe II, who is also the Chief of Otinor under the Nungua Stool, stated that there is a need to empower the disadvantaged and provide them with a quality of life by fostering the self-assurance necessary to interact with the community.

In a speech read on her behalf, the Greater Accra Regional Director of Social Welfare, Madam Anastacia Mawudoku, praised Nii Afotey Botwe II for his love and concern for the children, which prevents them from ending up on the streets, which has repercussions for the children's welfare and national security.

She explained that the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development's Social Welfare unit is a service delivery section for child protection and family welfare. She added that the agency collaborates with people in their communities to ensure their well-being through the promotion of equitable social development for the disadvantaged, the vulnerable, and Persons with Disabilities.

Madam Mawudoku explained that residential homes prioritize the promotion and preservation of children's rights, adding that it is a home for homeless, orphaned, and abandoned children with the responsibility to monitor, supervise, and license residential homes for children.

She reiterated that all children in the residential home are to be provided with education, good health, nutrition, playtime, leisure, and a child's safeguarding and protection policy, which includes complaint procedures.

Apostle Lawrence Otu Nyarko, the Human and Administrative Director of the Pentecost Church, praised Nii Afotey Botwe II for his concern for the disadvantaged, describing him as a compassionate individual with a golden heart, considering the endeavor he had decided to undertake by helping these people.

He stated that the proprietor and founder of the New Life Nungua Children's Home International is a decent person, and he prayed for God's blessing on his life, citing the concept of giving a new life to society's underprivileged as evidence.

Apostle Lawrence Otu Nyarko, citing the Bible, stated that God the Father considers it pure and genuine to care for orphans and widows in their suffering and to avoid being corrupted by the world.

He stated that it is the responsibility of Christians to cultivate an interest in foster parenting, to consider their education, and to treat foster children as if they were their own children.

Therefore, Apostle Lawrence Otu Nyarko urged philanthropists and other individuals to assist the orphanage home in addressing the challenges confronted by street-dwelling children.
