Photos: Vice Prez Bawumia Commissions Korle Bu Cath. Laboratory

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia
Dr.Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President of Facebook, inaugurated the Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab) at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on Tuesday.

The laboratory for catheterization, which cost one million dollars, was funded by the Bank of Ghana.

According to Br Bawumia, this occurred after he appealed to Dr. Addison, the Governor, to consider funding the purchase of such essential medical instruments as part of the company's Corporate Social Responsibility.

The most advanced Cath Lab in the nation is equipped with a Big Detector, dyna CT and roadmap software, as well as a 3D workstation.

These are essential requirements for Korle Bu Teaching Hospital to achieve accurate and effective minimally invasive treatments.

Officials claim that Korle Bu is the only country in the West Africa subregion to offer minimally invasive endovascular treatments (brain surgery without cutting the cranium) for conditions such as brain aneurysms.

The acquisition of this laboratory is therefore anticipated to reduce the number of patients sent abroad for additional testing and treatments.

Dr. Bawumia, on behalf of management, thanked Dr. Addison and the Bank of Ghana.

He acknowledged that the facility will significantly improve Ghana's capacity to provide cardiac catheterization, stenting for a variety of conditions, emergency treatment for strokes and thromboembolic phenomena, and other life-saving interventions.

A Catheterisation Lab is an examination room with diagnostic imaging apparatus used to visualize the arteries and chambers of the heart and to treat any stenosis or abnormality detected.
