Put Ghana First In Your Duties - Kennedy Agyapong's May Day Message To Ghanaians

Put Ghana first in your duties, says Kennedy Agyapong on May Day.

Kennedy Agyapong, a businessman and politician who is running for leadership of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), wished all employees a happy May Day on Monday, May 1.

He urged the workers to prioritize Ghana in their field of work.

On Monday, May 1, workers around the world are commemorating International Workers' Day, with the Ghanaian theme being "Protecting Incomes and Pensions in an Era of Economic Crises: Our Responsibility."

In his message, the lawmaker from Assin Central said, "As an entrepreneur who strongly believes in workers' rights, I wish Ghanaians a Happy May Day and urge everyone to place Ghana first in their daily work."

Morgan Ayawine, general secretary of the Industrial and Commercial Workers' Union (ICU), urged employers to commit to paying workers living wages in accordance with international standards.

He emphasized that this will be proportional to their efforts and sacrifices for increased productivity in Ghana, which will result in economic growth and national development.

This was included in his 2023 May Day message to all Union members.

Given the significance of pensions to the worker's survival now and in the future, he asserted that pensions should never be violated.

Mr. Ayawine stated that achieving a living wage for Ghana's workers and, by extension, safeguarding incomes and pensions, must be the responsibility of all stakeholders in the country's socioeconomic equation.
