Reduce The Intake Of Alcohol And Drugs - Security Personnels Adviced

Security personnels in the Eastern region have been exhorted to abstain from alcohol and drugs in order to perform their duties with greater precision.

According to their service commanders, excessive alcohol consumption and abuse in the line of duty tend to impair their discernment and influence their decisions.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service, Immigration Service, and Ghana Prisons, led by their regional service commanders, participated in a 15km health walk through the main streets of Koforidua to commemorate this year's Workers' Day.

The primary objective of the exercise, which was to help maintain the physical fitness of the service members, was also to enhance their teamwork.

In an interview with Citi News, the commanders exhorted the personnel to stop using illegal drugs. Eastern Regional Fire Service Commander Jennifer Naa Yaaley Quaye stated that security personnel must be physically able to perform their duties professionally.

"It would be beneficial if all officers adopted a healthy lifestyle by avoiding junk food, treating their health concerns seriously, and exercising.

"I also advise officers to avoid alcohol and other harmful substances if they can, and if they can't, they should limit their consumption; however, I believe that if they abstain, it will benefit us."

Faisal Bissue, Deputy Commissioner of Immigration and Eastern Regional Commander, emphasized the importance of avoiding drugs and alcohol and exhorted personnel to prioritize their own well-being.

Alcohol, smoking, and substance use are strictly prohibited by every security agency's policy. You have no reason to engage in such conduct, but unfortunately there are bad apples everywhere.

As part of the May Day celebrations in the region, the Ghana Medical Association, along with sister associations such as the Ghana Bar Association, Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana, and Ghana Journalists Association, held a sporting event to maintain fitness and strengthen ties.

After walking 6 kilometers, the group engaged in a combined aerobic exercise before competing in healthy football, draft, cards, scrabbles, and dancing contests.

Dr. Arko Akoto Ampaw, Eastern Regional Chairman of the Ghana Medical Association and Medical Superintendent of the Eastern Regional Hospital, stated that the purpose of the health activities was to remind individuals to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
