TV3 Apologies For " Northners Use Clay As Pad" Comment Made By Mrs. Rita Ertonam

Mrs. Rita Etornam Sey, an advocate for menstrual hygiene and the founder of the Inspire Today Foundation, stated on TV3 that due to severe poverty and deprivation, some girls and women in certain regions of Northern Ghana use clay instead of sanitary pads. TV3 has issued an apology and dissociated itself from these comments.

Television journalist Roland Walker apologized profusely and referred to the remark as an error and misunderstanding. In addition, the station disassociated itself from the remarks.

"We had Mrs. Rita Etornam Sey and her non-governmental organization last week. They engaged in the exchange of sanitary...She also claimed that some young women and schoolgirls used clay instead of sanitary liners when they visited communities in northern Ghana. And she made this claim on this platform as part of her World Menstrual Day message.

We have noted the protests and concerns voiced by various Northern Ghanaian organizations...While doing so, we would like to extend our profound apologies to all citizens of Northern Ghana, their families and friends, all organizations working in this space, and all concerned citizens who have been disturbed and angered by Mrs. Rita Etornam Sey's remarks on this platform. We would like to distance ourselves from her remarks..."We sincerely apologize for the error and misunderstanding," said Roland Walker on behalf of the station.

Mrs. Rita Etornam Sey has not yet responded to the criticism of her remarks.
