The Only Regional Capital Without An Airport Revealed

Mr. Asanga Rex, Mayor of Bolgatanga, reminded the Deputy Minister of Transport that Upper East Region is the only region without a regional airport in its regional capital.

During a consultative forum on electric vehicle policy hosted by the regional Ministries of Transport and Energy, Mr. Asanga garnered the attention of the Deputy Minister for Transport, the Honorable Frederick Obeng Adom.

"Our city is the only regional capital without an airstrip. Perhaps it is not directly related to your ministry, but I believe it is our time and we can take it on."

The construction of an airport for the people of the Upper East Region has been a campaign promise of both the NPP and the NDC for several years. Unfortunately, the people enjoy it when politicians use it to campaign during election season, but nothing happens after the election.

During the tenure of the late Kofi Addah, may he rest in peace, as Aviation Minister, an attempt was made but was hampered by misunderstanding on the part of the very people who were in desperate need of the Regional Airport.

However, the region lost the opportunity due to the dispute over where to locate the regional airport, and as a consequence, there have been no further updates.

Mr. Asanga was reminding the Deputy Minister for Transport of the significance of a regional airport due to the delay they encountered when attempting to fly from Washington to Tamale prior to attending a meeting in Bolga that was originally scheduled to begin at 9:00 am but was later moved to 1:30 pm.
