Tragedy : Two Dead Bodies Recovered From Volta Lake

Two corpses were discovered in Volta Lake.

Friday, Krachi West Municipality in the Oti region recovered the bodies of a man and a woman believed to have perished when their canoe capsized on Volta Lake.

The corpses have since been transferred to the morgue of the Krachi West Municipal Hospital.

The bodies have been identified; according to JoyNews sources, the male is a teacher on one of the islands and the woman is a local.

According to eyewitnesses, strong winds on the lake caused some passengers to forsake their voyage.

According to the rescuer, the two individuals who perished were returning to their island communities from Kete Krachi, the municipal capital, on a fishing boat after their vessel abandoned them on another island due to a storm.

"They stated that they were traveling through Kotoku in order to drop off one passenger.

However, because it was late at night, they passed by the community without realizing it.

"In the process of turning the boat around to drop off the passenger, he lost control of the vessel and it capsized," he explained.

Meanwhile, the canoe's purported fisherman passenger has survived.
