We Are Deligently Working On Chieftaincy Issues

President Akufo-Addo states that his administration is diligently working to find an enduring solution to land and chieftaincy issues throughout the country.

He believes that it is the main reason for the majority of internal conflicts in Ghana.

"So far in our governing system, we have not found a satisfactory way of dealing with it," he acknowledged, explaining that his government is working diligently to find amicable solutions.

Tuesday evening, when the chiefs of the Nanung Traditional Council in the Northern Region, headed by the Nyelinbolgu Naa, Yakubu Andani Dasana, visited him at the Jubilee House, he provided this assurance.

The chiefs objected to the fact that some of their lands and chiefs fell under the jurisdiction of the Oti Region, but were not accorded appropriate recognition to the extent that they were forced to accept chiefs unknown to the kingdom.

President Akufo-Addo indicated that if lands that have been in the ownership of the people for a long time did not become part of the administrative structure to which they belong, it could lead to problems, with some unscrupulous individuals exploiting the situation to create further divisions and conflicts.

Therefore, he commended the Regent for bringing up the issue, even though he acknowledged that it is a national phenomenon and not unique to their traditional region.

Regarding the region's security, the President expressed delight that peace prevails.

He stated, "I am very pleased to hear that because my primary concern at any given time is to ensure peace in the region."

According to him, this is why the government continues to equip the police to maintain order and safeguard lives and property.

Even so, he stated, "there are still gaps that must be filled, and efforts will be made to do so, and we should have the assurance that the government will do its best to address the lawlessness in the region."

President Akufo-Addo also assured them that the government would address their concerns regarding the expansion of the Bimbila Hospital to accommodate the growing patient population, as well as their request for the construction of a health training institute in the region.

Naa Andani Dasana praised the President for his extraordinary dedication to the welfare and advancement of Ghanaians, stating, "We are fortunate to have you as our President, particularly in these turbulent times, which are largely caused by external factors."

This, he explained, was due to the fact that "history has shown that great leaders emerge not from rosy moments, but from troubled times."

He was appreciative of the support the people of Nanung have received thus far, particularly through the various social intervention programs that have improved their lives.
