10-year-old boy charged as adult for killing mother over headset

Last week, a 10-year-old boy in Milwaukee shot and killed his 44-year-old mother. He is now being charged as an adult with first-degree murder.

On Nov. 21, around 7 a.m., a person was shot and killed near 87th and Hemlock.

A criminal complaint says that the boy was mad at his mom because she woke him up early and wouldn't let him buy something on Amazon.

At first, police thought the boy was playing with the gun when it went off and hit his mom, Quiana Mann, in the head, killing her.

According to the criminal complaint, when the boy was first questioned, he said he was twirling the gun around his finger and it "accidentally went off."

After killing his mother, the boy woke up his sister, who found their mother dead and called 911.

Because he was young, the boy could stay with his family.

A 10-year-old boy is being treated as an adult because he shot and killed his mother because he was upset about his virtual reality headset.

However, the following day, the family contacted the Milwaukee Police Department with "serious concerns."

The boy's 26-year-old sister told police that he has had "rage issues" all his life and that he talks to "five different imaginary people."

The complaint says that the boy had been given a "concerning diagnosis" by a therapist and that his mother had put cameras in the house to keep an eye on him.

"Someone had unplugged these cameras two weeks before the woman was killed," the police said.

The sister also told the police that she found out the boy logged into their mother's Amazon account the morning after she died and ordered an Oculus Virtual Reality Headset.

A family member also said in the complaint that the boy would pick up their puppy by its tail and "swing it around until it whimpered and howled in pain."

It is said that this happened when the boy was only four years old.

Detectives were told by the boy's aunt that after his mother died, he never cried or seemed sad.

The complaint says that the 10-year-old told his aunt that he was "actually pointing the gun at his mother."

The day after his mother died, his aunt said, he called her and said he was sorry for killing her and then asked if his Amazon package had come yet.

In a second interview with police, the boy allegedly said he got the gun because he was mad at her for waking him up early and not letting him get something from Amazon.

He told the police that his mother was in front of him when he shot the wall to "scare" her.

In the complaint, it also says that he admitted to getting his mother's keys to the gun lock box the night before.

The 10-year-old is facing a first-degree reckless homicide charge. If he is found guilty, he could spend up to 60 years in prison.

On Friday, November 25, he went to court for the first time. A $50,000 cash bond was set. On Dec. 7, he will go to court for a status hearing.
