14-Year-Old Girl Allegedly Defiled By Policeman Suffers Mockery And Harassment

A 14-year-old girl claims that a police officer defiled her at Ave-Xevi in the Akatsi North District of the Volta. She says that other adults in the area have made fun of her and harassed her.

Sergeant Emmanuel Duah, also known as Bob Marley, a police officer who was stationed at an Ave. Xevi police barrier on the Ho-Aflao road in September 2021, is accused of defiling the victim.

Reports say that the suspect got the victim to go to a police post that hadn't opened yet, where she was raped twice.

But in a recent interview, the victim said that after the incident, her classmates have made fun of her at school.

She said, "My classmates call me names like Bob Marley's wife when I go to school. I get mad at them and want to fight them, and sometimes I don't want to go back to school.

"But the teachers told them not to call me that name, so now they are scared," the victim told Faisel Abdul-Iddrisu of Starr News.

This claim has also been backed up by the fact that the school administration had to warn the students not to act in this way.

The 14-year-old victim is an orphan who lives with her aunt. She also told the reporter that she has been harassed by paedophiles all over town.

"When I go to town, some people, mostly adults, also call me Bob Marley's wife. Some people also come up to me and say things like, "Well, Bob Marley did it, so I guess I should let them do it, too."

"These things scare me. I've heard that Bob Marley has been coming to town, so when I'm told to go to town at night, I refuse."

Aunt of the victim was worried about how long it was taking to start prosecuting the case.

"This problem has been going on since September of last year," she said. When we were invited to Sogakope in October 2021, that was the last time we heard from the police. We haven't heard anything from the police since then until now."

"We are poor, but the government needs to protect us all. This has been going on for too long, and I'm not happy about it, but I can't do anything about it. "My daughter deserves justice, but I'm so helpless and don't know what to do," she said in the Ewe language.

But a year later, in response to an RTI request sent by Faisel Abdul-Iddrisu of Starr News to the Volta Regional Police Command on October 13, 2022, the police said that the suspect had been charged with defilement.

The letter, which was sent on November 15, 2022, also said that the original case docket had been sent back to the office of the Attorney General, Volta.

The letter from the Regional Command also said that the suspect, Sergeant Emmanuel Duah, was stopped on October 15, 2021.
