17 bodies kept for 18 years due to chieftaincy dispute are to be buried

Today, November 23, 2022, 17 members of the Agona Royal Family who died between 2005 and 2020 will be laid to rest.

Because there were still disagreements about who was the chief, these bodies were kept in the morgue for almost 20 years. A Kumasi-based reporter said that the Royal Family didn't hold funerals for family members who had died because a new chief hadn't been chosen yet.

Nana Appiah, a reporter for SVTV Africa, said that the family finally agreed to hold the funerals for the 17 family members who had died two months ago.

The family was charged GHS30,000 for the funeral. Nana Appiah also said that the Tafo Chief told him that every house on Tafo land must pay GHS100 to pay the fee.

"Many people paid, and the shops at Magazine were among them. But when it came time to pay, Nana couldn't figure out where the money went. So the funeral had to be moved to today, November 23," he told DJ Nyaami.

At the moment, their funeral is happening at the Tafo Community Centre. Nana Agyin Frimpong is in charge of the Chief of Tafo Traditional Council. He has told all shops in the Tafo Municipality to stay closed.
