18-year-old student jailed for 3 years for torturing teenager over boyfriend

A Tanzanian student, 18, was given a three-year prison term for tormenting an Ugandan youngster because of a relationship.

Kaftah Queen, a Tanzanian citizen 18 years old, was sentenced to three years in prison by Ms. Roseline Nsenge, Chief Magistrate at Kira Court in Kampala, Uganda, after she pleaded guilty to an accusation of aggravated torture.

Nicole, a 15-year-old girl, was assaulted by the Trinity College Nabweru student and a group of other girls who are still on the loose. They kicked, slapped, and dragged Nicole across the floor of a home.

On January 31, 2023, the judge sentenced Kaftah and observed that while she had expressed remorse, it was still the court's responsibility to inform the public that such behavior was not acceptable.

"Kaftah Queen is hereby given a three-year prison term. Other kids should be discouraged from engaging in such behavior, she ruled, by the punishment.

The prosecution, led by Mr. Edward Tweheyo, alleges that on January 8 in Nsasa in Kira Municipality, Wakiso District, Kaftah and other suspects still at large injured a female juvenile who was 15 years old by accusing her of being in love with Kaftah's boyfriend, Derrick Lwanga.



A few days after a video showing them tormenting the teenage girl went viral on social media, she was detained.



At the Luzira prison, she has been detained since January 17, 2023.
